The Best Places to Visit on a Yacht Charter Vacation

The Best Yacht Charter Destinations Depend on the Kind of Vacation You Want

There really isn’t one “best” yacht charter destination. The British Virgin Islands are fantastic for easy island-hopping and first-time charter guests, while Greece is hard to beat if you want history, great food, and villages to explore ashore. The Bahamas are all about incredible water and beaches, and Italy and Croatia offer a completely different Mediterranean experience.

The right destination also depends on when you’re traveling, because the Caribbean and Mediterranean yacht charter seasons are different.

Below, I’ve broken down some of my favorite yacht charter destinations, who I think they’re best for, and what makes each one worth considering

FAQs

What is the best yacht charter destination for first-time charter guests?

The British Virgin Islands are one of my favorite recommendations for first-time charter guests. The islands are close together, cruising times are relatively short, and there’s a great mix of beaches, snorkeling, beach bars, and places to explore ashore.

Should I charter in the Caribbean or Mediterranean?

It really depends on when you want to travel and the experience you’re looking for. The Caribbean is ideal for beautiful beaches, warm water, snorkeling, and a more relaxed island atmosphere. The Mediterranean is a great choice if you also want history, incredible food, villages, shopping, and more time exploring ashore.

What are the best yacht charter destinations in summer?

Summer is prime yacht charter season in the Mediterranean. Greece, Croatia, and Italy are some of my top choices from May through October, with June and September being especially nice if you want great weather with fewer peak-season crowds.

What are the best yacht charter destinations in winter?

Winter is the perfect time to head to the Caribbean or Bahamas. The British Virgin Islands, US Virgin Islands, and Bahamas are all excellent choices for escaping colder weather and enjoying warm water, sunshine, and island-hopping.

Not Sure Which Yacht Charter Destination Is Right for You?

You don’t have to have everything figured out before reaching out. In fact, choosing the right destination is one of the things I help my clients with.

Tell me when you want to travel, how many people are coming, your approximate budget, and what you want the trip to feel like. Maybe you want incredible beaches and quiet anchorages. Maybe food, history, and exploring ashore are just as important as time on the yacht. Or maybe you simply know you want somewhere warm and beautiful and need help narrowing it down.

About Stephanie at Songs In The Sails

Stephanie Lowrey is the founder and yacht charter broker behind Songs In The Sails Yacht Charters. Based in Athens, Georgia, Stephanie took an unconventional path into the yacht charter world.

Before launching Songs In The Sails in 2021, she spent years in the music industry working in artist management, tour management, and tour promotion. That background taught her how to manage countless details behind the scenes, understand what people need, and create experiences that feel effortless to the person enjoying them.

Her love of travel and sailing eventually led her in a new direction, and the name Songs In The Sails brings those two parts of her life together — music and yachts.

Today, Stephanie works personally with charter clients to match them with the right yacht, crew, and destination. She travels, attends yacht shows, meets crews, and steps aboard the yachts she recommends whenever possible, giving her clients insight that goes far beyond what can be learned from an online listing.

For Stephanie, the goal has never been simply to book a yacht. It is to understand who is traveling, what matters to them, and help create the kind of trip they will still be talking about years later.
